Surbir shares Makhan lead

Former Nepal champion Surbir Lama today shared the Makhan Cup Chess Tournament lead with FIDE Master Manish Hamala and veteran Rajendra Prasad Shrestha after he was held to a draw by Raja Puri.

Surbir – who was the sole leader till the fourth round — accumulated five points after the completion of fifth round and his draw profited Manish and Rajendra following their respective wins over Asmita Adhikari and Prem Krishna Maharjan respectively.

Shyam Sundar Shrestha defeated Gyanendra Prasad Shrestha to earn four points and stayed second in the points table. Rijendra Raj Bhandari, Prem Krishna and Rajan share the third spot with 3.5 points each.
